Revolution Volleyball coaches are all-in on helping every athlete grow as a player and as a person. We combine clear, repeatable skill teaching with the Revolution Defense system and a fun, competitive practice environment where players get a lot of touches and real feedback.

We start with a strong technical foundation and then layer in position-specific work, game-like scenarios, and decision-making as athletes advance. Practices are structured, high-energy, and focused on teamwork, communication, and confidence—so players improve quickly, understand the game, and actually enjoy being in the gym.

Tanner Morris - Head of Volleyball

Tanner is entering his 30th year of coaching and has built his career around one simple idea: every athlete can get a lot better with clear teaching and high-effort reps. He created the Revolution Defense system to give players simple, repeatable system that make defense and reading the game easier to learn and easier to run across all teams.

Over the years, he’s worked with thousands of athletes from first-time youth players to college and professional athletes, always starting with strong fundamentals and layering in speed, decision-making, and confidence. Tanner lives our standard of Effort, Energy, and Enthusiasm, and his goal at Revolution is that every athlete feels seen, coached, and pushed to reach their own ceiling, on the court and as a person.

Marvin Schaefer - Head Coach

Experience: I have been coaching volleyball for four years as the head coach for the Wood Oaks Junior High 8th grade girls team and at Revolution across multiple age groups. My Wood Oaks teams have won two conference championships in my four years as head coach.

Favorite skill to coach: I love coaching blocking. A well-placed, well-timed block does more to prevent a kill than almost any other defensive action.

Coaching style: My coaching style is positive and pragmatic. I want my players to compete at full speed without fear, so I never punish errors made while giving their best effort. Because practice time is limited, I differentiate training so players focus on the skills they use most in matches—for example, defensive specialists and outside hitters take most serve receive reps, while right sides and middles get the bulk of blocking reps.

Off the court: When I am not coaching volleyball, you can find me kitesurfing, snowboarding, ice climbing, or playing rugby.

Experience: After four years as a collegiate setter, I transitioned into coaching and now have two years of club coaching experience.

Favorite thing to coach: I love coaching game IQ—helping athletes read the court, anticipate plays, and compete with confidence. My goal is to teach players how to think the game, not just play it.

Coaching style: My coaching style is calm and steady, focused on motivating athletes, holding them accountable, and pushing them to reach their full potential.

Fun fact: I will never turn down a good coffee run.

Experience: This is my second season coaching club youth volleyball, after many years coaching summer camps. I played six years of club volleyball, four years at Wahlert High School in Dubuque, IA, and four years of collegiate volleyball at Loyola University Chicago.

Favorite thing to coach: I love breaking down the game, from fundamentals and technique to team systems and decision-making.

Coaching style: I am a positive coach with high standards. I expect my players to give their all while having fun, and I believe the harder you try, the more fun you have.

Fun facts: I am a proud mom of three children, ages 5 to 14. I am big into yoga, Pilates, lifting, and running, anything that helps me keep an edge on my kids.
